Over here at Adeo Wood Products, we strive to bring you the latest in cutting board products. Thus we introduce to you thermal maple which is also called torrefied maple, see our wide variety of thermal maple cutting boards on our thermal maple category page.
Torrefaction caramelizes the wood at a high temperature (between 160 and 240 degrees Celsius) in a low oxygen environment, emphasizing the wood grain and giving it a beautiful change in color. The process reduces the moisture content of the wood to 0% and later increases it to 6% to give the wood it's flexibility back. The heat removes organic compounds from the wood cells, changing both the physical and chemical make-up of the wood. This treatment leaves our hardwood maple boards a beautiful coffee brown with the strength of the board being on par with one untreated.
Torrefied wood is an entirely natural and eco-friendly choice, eliminating the use of any harmful chemicals. Torrefied wood has also less of a tendency to warp or shrink due to temperature and humidity variations. It is proven to be mold and fungus resistant to independent studies. These boards engrave beautifully and make your design stand out from the rest.
Following are the reasons Thermal Maple makes an excellent cutting board .
It should be kept in mind that the torrefied wood is still living material after this process and as such still requires regular maintenance, so placing a hardwood board it in the dishwasher is always a no-no!
